Guaranteed you will Laugh Out Loud

January 19, 2008

The way I keep myself going until my son comes home (approximately 2 months now, prayfully, you never know in the military) is humor.

One of my Red Hat Society friends sent me this and I haven’t laughed this much in a really long time!  Read on:

Taser Classic…don’ t tell me you can read this without laughing… I laughed till I cried!!! ( Only a guy would do this!)

A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their anniversary submitted this:

Last weekend at Larry’s Pistol & Pawn Shop I was looking for a little something extra for my wife, Toni. What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/purse- sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on an assailant. The idea is to allow my wife — who would never consider a gun –adequate time to retreat to safety. WAY TOO COOL!!

Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded in two triple-a batteries and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. But then I read (yes, ‘read’) that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I’d get the blue arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs and I’d know it was working.. Awe some!!! (Actually, I have yet to explain to Toni what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave). Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn’t be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right?!!

There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh and blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it.. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong??

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.

So, I’m sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as if to say, ‘don’t do it,’ reasoning that a one-second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn’t hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for the heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION @!@$$!%!@*!! I’m pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, and body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again..

I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs.

You should know, if you ever feel compelled to ‘mug’ yourself with a taser, that there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself. You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. SON-OF-A-… that hurt like heck!!!

A minute or so later (I can’t be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected what little wits I had left, sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they up get there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I’m still looking for my testicles!! I’m offering a significant reward for their safe return.

Still in shock,
Earl

Christmas is Coming

December 15, 2007

That’s the word!!  I have done no shopping, but have some gifts I made wrapped for friends and family.

Dwayne has switched over to 1st company.  He went from 2nd to 1st.  It’s a lot better for him.  He and Bobbie’s house is going along well after they finally got started.  They have the frame and are working on the frame of the roof.  So, things are going well.

He has sent some pictures to Bobbie, but I haven’t got to see them yet.  Packages are starting to arrive to him now.  I will see if he got the ones the Red Hat Society Ladies sent as soon as I can get Bobbie to ask him.  For some reason, he would rather talk to her than me when he calls.  Ha, Ha.  Wonder why?

Love you all!

Continuing Story of Purse Hangers

November 24, 2007

My website has given me the pleasure of meeting the most wonderful people on God’s Green Earth!

In the previous posting of “Talked to Dwayne”, I told you how I had messed up a shipment to a Valued Customer and a Care Package to Dwayne.  She got the Care Package, Dwayne will be receiving the Red Hat Purse Hangers.  What a Hoot!!

Here is was Helen P out of Pennsylvania did:

I’ve been meaning to let you know that I did send the package to your son in Iraq.  I mailed it on Monday and with the holiday caos this week I forgot to let you know.  I put a little note in the package apologizing for opening his letter and said I hoped he got a good laugh about receiving some Red Hat purse hooks!  Since the package was already opened (by me) I included a bag of pretzels that are made locally.  Just to give him a taste of Penna.  As for the shipping cost of his package, that’s on me.  It’s the least I can do for him for serving his country.  It really didn’t cost that much.  In fact, I sent a package the same day to my granddaughters that weighed a lot less and only went to Ohio and was only $2.00 cheaper!!  I’ve been having a good laugh telling my friends of the mix-up.  It’s a cute story to tell.

It makes you have faith in people again to know that she exists in the world, doesn’t it.

God Bless you Helen!

Talked to Dwayne

November 17, 2007

purse hanger

Dwayne called this morning!  Fabulous!  He is fine and things are going well.  He mainly wanted to know how his new house was going.  He and Bobbie are having one built.

There is one thing, though.  He has not gotten any packages since November 4th and the MotoMails we send have not been received since November 5th.  He will have a lot of surprises when he does get them.

One funny thing happened with one of my customers, Helen, from Pennsylvania.  She had ordered 4 of the Red Hat Purse Hangers (pictured).  You hang your purse on them when you go out to eat or on any table.

She called and e-mailed me that it looked like there was a shipping error.  She received a box with a letter from “Granny”, gloves, candy, and other such things.  She said it look like a “Care” package.

Well, it was!  She got one of Dwayne’s Care Packages that I sent out.  Now what is funny is that Dwayne and his burly Marines, will be getting a package with these 4 Purse Hangers.

Can you  picture him opening the package up with all the Marines around and finding these purse hangers?

God does have a sense of humor!

Marine Corps Tradition in Veterans Day Tribute

From Ruthann

My nephew, SSGT Ryan R. Walker USMC is in Falusia Iraq since early August 2007…his 2nd time.  What makes it more difficult for him (for me as well) is his Dad, my brother, died suddenly in June 2007 age 60.  Ryan is a remarkable young man who thinks FIRST of his unit, then himself. Everything we send him, he takes very little and puts the rest in a SHARE BOX for his unit to help themselves. Pretty admirable for a 26 year old man. Ryan’s home base is Camp Lejeune, NC. I will pray for your son…I know you are praying for all our Military. I am PROUD to say I am not only a MARINE CORPS AUNT, but also, a MARINE CORPS MOM 1991-1997 Persian Gulf War era (my son Kirk age 34, is a veteran now ).  Love & Prayers,Ruthann

I will have you in my prayers tonight.  I really appreciate your son and everyone that has fought for my country.  I just wished everyone felt this way.  Some friends and I went to Indianapolis (we are the next in line for having the most monuments behind Washington DC) and walking out of one of the museums, noticed 3 soldiers standing there.  We walked up to them and thanked them for what they were during for our freedom.  It was like giving them a hundreds each.  They appreciated so much, that we took the time for say thanks.  We think they were checking the place out for the Vise President Cheney.  He was here.  When we left, we felt great.

Thanks to Karen, A sister in the Red Hat Society

Read below:

I was very touched by your Veteran’s Day message.  I will keep your son in my prayers.  My sister-in-law just returned, and sent me an American flag that had flown over Fallujah on March 6, 2006.  For once in my life, I was speechless!Yesterday I had the privilege of having a young man over for dinner who also just returned from Iraq.  His mother was my closest friend for over 30 years, and died from breast cancer just before Thanksgiving last year.  He was able to take 30 day emergency leave to spend with his mother, but had to return to Iraq 5 days after she passed.

We had such a joyful time!  His dad and sister came along, and my whole family, (3 sons), and their friends joined us.  We had about 18 people here.  It was such a wonderful time to spend with one of America’s finest.  This young man is in the Army, and my sister-in-law is Navy.

God bless you and your family,

A faithful shopper and Red Hatter,

Karen (I have erased her last name for privacy)

This is one of the Red Hat Ladies that sent a box to Dwayne and his unit.  Even a Christmas Tree.  She has been an e-mail friend of mine for over 2 years and it is always kind and gracious.

Ooh Rah!  Chris!  You are the best!

Talked to Dwayne

October 26, 2007

Dwayne called yesterday in a really clear call.  It was like he was just down the street.  Thank God for phones!!!

He said things are really quite there.  Thank you, Jesus!!  All are well and they are receiving their packages.

Thanks again to Diane and Chris for sending packages to him and his unit!  You Red Hat Society gals are really coming up with some creative ideas.  Thanks for the Christmas tree, Chris!!

It looks like he is able to call more than once a week.  They buy their minutes on the land line over there.

God Bless,

Red Hat Military Mom
